New review essay in Labour/ Le Travail by Anuneeta Chatterjee

Rethinking the narratives around digital platforms in migration through the lens of racial capitalism
Labour/ Le Travail

This review essay asks, “What does the expansion of digital platforms mean for the lives of people of colour in the Global South and for those in migration?” This essay navigates this question of migration and digital platforms using the theoretical framework of racial capitalism. It presents a critical review of four books by scholars across the disciplines of political theory, sociology, and critical media studies. The books include ‘The Futures of Racial Capitalism’ by Gargi Bhattacharya, Resisting Racial Capitalism: An Antipolitical Theory of Refusal by Ida Danewid, Digital Migration by Koen Leurs, and Democracy and Empire: Labor, Nature, and the Reproduction of Capitalism by Inés Valdez.
