Dr. Manish Joshi reappointed clinical and academic head, Radiology
The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) are pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr. Manish Joshi, MD, PhD, as the clinical and academic head of the Department of Radiology at CSM and AHS.
The reappointment took effect July 1, 2026.
Dr. Joshi is a professor with the Department of Radiology and a neuroradiologist with the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at AHS.
Dr. Joshi was the Department of Radiology’s vice chair of Education from 2016 to 2021. He was also the fellowship program director and the program director of the Neuroradiology Residency Program during the same period. His clinical and research areas of interest and expertise include neurodegenerative diseases and stroke.
Dr. Joshi has completed extensive postgraduate training in diagnostic radiology as well as subspecialty training in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology. He received a Bachelor of Science and a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.
He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Medical Biophysics and a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. His medical residency in Diagnostic Radiology took place at CSM. He returned to the University of Toronto to complete an additional fellowship in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology.
Dr. Joshi contributes expertise to several academic committees as well as provincial and national organizations. They include the Canada’s Drug Agency’s pan-Canadian Medical Imaging Task Force, the Canadian Council on Neurodegenerative Diseases, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and many provincial and local committees within AHS, CSM and Acute Care Alberta.
In his second term as head of Radiology Dr. Joshi plans to further expand the department’s role in clinical trials, integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into multiple facets of radiology workflow, and grow the diagnostic and therapeutic molecular imaging program with the advent of the new Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Cyclotron facility. These are on top of the ongoing and difficult tasks of addressing wait times and access to diagnostic and interventional radiology services for patients in both urban and rural centres within the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Corridor.
