Roles are paid through research funds and will have an anticipated end date (maximum 5 year initial term).

Full Time Equivalent (FTE) is equal to the number of hours a full-time employee works for the University of Ģý. 1.0 FTE is 35 hours/week.


Fixed Term (salaried position)

Fixed Term Full-Time

This salaried position is expected to work 1.0 FTE.

Definition: Employees with managerial authority over direct reports who support research projects at the university for a specified period of employment up to five (5) years dependent upon length of research funding associated with the appointment.

Position Management: 

  • Not assigned a position number in the HR System except when the job has direct reporting relationships to it

Recruitment Requirements:

  • Job Profile required
  • Funding approval required
  • Job Opening requested and approved via the Job Opening Request form (located in the myUĢý Portal under My work)
  • Offer letter produced
  • Probation completed after six months 

Work Schedule: Flexible (based on business priorities) around a 35 hour work week.

Time Sheet:

  • Salaried Employees - code Exception time
  • MaPS employees not eligible for positive time exceptions (CTO, Overtime, etc)

Benefits Eligibility: 

  • Appointments six months or less – Not Eligible
  • Appointments greater than six months – Eligible for Full Benefits Plan

Pension Eligibility: 

  • Appointments less than one year - Not Eligible
  • Appointments of one year or more (or extended beyond one year or more) - Mandatory

Special Leave Entitlements:  

  • Appointments six months or less – No Entitlements (except Bereavement)
  • Appointments greater than six months – Full Entitlement

Sick Leave:

  • Appointments six months or less – No Entitlements
  • Appointments greater than six months – Full Entitlement
    • 70% sick leave first three months
    • 100% sick leave after three months

Vacation: Full Entitlement pro-rated based on length of term

  • 20 days for 1 - 7 years of service
  • 1 additional day/year for 8 - 11 years of service
  • 25 days for 12 - 21 years of service
  • 30 days for 22 years of service and over
  • Accrues semi-monthly from date of hire

Fixed Term Part-Time

This salaried position is expected to work less than 1.0 FTE, to a minimum of 0.4 FTE.

Definition: Employees who support research projects at the university for a specified period of employment up to five (5) years dependent upon length of research funding associated with the appointment.
