Operating Funded are positions are paid through base operating funds and may or may not have an anticipated end date.
Full Time Equivalent (FTE) is equal to the number of hours a full-time employee works for the University of Ģý. Generally 1.0 FTE is 35 hours/week, however specialized roles may be 37.5 hours, or 40 hours per week.
Types of operating funded positions
- Regular (permanent salaried position)
- Limited Term (anticipated end date)
- Temporary (not more than six (6) consecutive months)
- Temporary Relief (replacing a regular employee expected to return)
Regular (permanent salaried position)
Regular Full-Time
This permanent salaried position is expected to work 1.0 FTE.
Definition: Employees funded from base operating dollars (Operating Employees) who work year-round.

Position Management:
- Assigned a one-to-one position number in the HR System
- Active positions are used for annual budgeting and planning purposes
- Active positions count against a department budget’s spend until that position is inactivated in the HR System

- Probation completed after six months

- 20 days for 1 - 7 years of service
- 1 additional day/year for 8 - 11 years of service
- 25 days for 12 - 21 years of service
- 30 days for 22 years of service and over
- Accrues semi-monthly from date of hire
Regular Part-Time
This permanent salaried position is expected to work less than 1.0 FTE, to a minimum of 0.4 FTE.

Limited Term (anticipated end date)
Limited term positions may be paid through base operating funds or operating project funds.
The length of term is typically up to two (2) years.
Limited Term Full-Time
This position is working in a non-recurring appointment (created through the use of one-time funds whose terms of hire establish an anticipated date for termination) and expected to work 1.0 FTE.
Definition: Employees working in a non-recurring appointment created through the use of one-time operating funds whose terms of hire establish an anticipated date for termination. Limited Term employees are hired using one of the following employee classification (Empl Class):
- Staff Limited Term when the position supports base operations and is charged directly to base operating funds.* or
- Staff Limited Term (Project) when the position is directly charged to an operating project.
*Applies even if the salary is recovered from non-research project funds
Appointments cannot be less than six (6) months or more than two (2) years.
